Call for Papers for SDS2027. Original research from the full pipeline of data science and AI, with scientific-technical depth and practical applicability. Proceedings in IEEE Xplore.
We invite original research submissions from the broad field of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) focusing on novelty, best practice and use case orientation. Submissions are required to demonstrate both scientific-technical depth and practical applicability, and may encompass methods along the full pipeline of data science and AI systems – from data acquisition and data management, through data analysis using machine learning and AI, to visualization, human-machine interaction, data product design, value creation, and the management of societal effects.
Topics include but are not limited to the following key focus areas for 2027:
Multimodal and world models, small and specialized models, open-weight model ecosystems, neuro-symbolic and hybrid AI, new and alternative architectures, scaling limits, efficient training and inference, model compression and quantization, sovereign AI, and agentic and compound AI systems.
Design and evaluation of human-AI and human-agent teams, AI-supported decision-making, trust and reliance, delegation and human oversight, workplace adoption, productivity and skills, organizational transformation, societal impact, and unintended consequences of human-AI interaction.
Production deployments and rigorously evaluated case studies, scalability and adoption, productivity and return on investment, data-based and AI-supported services, lessons from successful and failed implementations, industrial time-series and sensor data, predictive maintenance, quality inspection, forecasting, and physical and embodied AI.
Implementation of AI regulation and compliance, certification and standards, privacy-preserving methods, model and system evaluation, hallucination and error detection, robustness and uncertainty, post-deployment monitoring, and the safety and security of autonomous and agentic systems.
Data Science and AI are dynamic fields. Therefore, we also welcome submissions that do not fit into any of the key focus areas.
Please read the submission guidelines carefully and ensure that your paper complies with the requirements for double-blind review. Failure to meet the requirement will result in desk rejection.
Max. 8 pages incl. references, IEEE 8.5" x 11" two-column format. Present high-quality research contributions, including experiments, analysis, or system papers, as well as descriptions of application results.
Max. 4 pages incl. references, IEEE 8.5" x 11" two-column format. Present late-breaking results, work in progress, follow-up extensions, application case studies, or evaluations of existing methods.
All submissions must be original works that have not been published previously in any conference proceedings, magazine, journal, or edited book. Concurrent submissions are strictly forbidden. SDS2027 maintains the confidentiality of submitted material. Upon acceptance, the titles, authorship, and abstracts of accepted papers will be released.
Each submission will undergo a thorough review by the international Scientific Program Committee, with multiple experts evaluating the papers based on established scholarly criteria. To ensure impartiality, authors must anonymize their submissions appropriately. Submissions that fail to meet this requirement will be desk rejected.
The international board of Program Co-Chairs will take the final decisions based on the external reviews. In special or borderline cases, the Program Co-Chairs will solicit additional meta-reviews and take brief author comments on the reviews into account to ensure fairness and consistency of the evaluation. Excellent content and presentation are mandatory for acceptance (acceptance rate 2026: 36%).
Submission of a paper implies the commitment of at least one author to register and present the paper at the conference (in English, as poster or talk).
Accepted papers will be submitted for possible inclusion into IEEE Xplore subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements.
AI tools may be used for language editing, translation, formatting, and other writing assistance without disclosure. If AI tools are used as part of the research itself (e.g. in research design, coding, data generation or processing, experimentation, analysis, or the creation of results) their use must be described to an extent that allows the research process to be understood and assessed. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and appropriate attribution of all content in their submission. AI systems cannot be listed as authors.

A workshop proposal demonstrates expertise in a form that strengthens the practical core of SDS2027. It shows how concrete methods and skills can raise the operational level of the entire community. All workshops take place on the workshop day as half-day sessions.
